AIDA SEISA
By Sara Recentes
Shouting in the streets,
attending dialogues with the city mayor,
fighting for the rights of peasants and Lumads,
leading people in their community,
being a mother to her 3 children,
and a loving wife to her husband--
these were all she did.
And the men in fatigue tagged her
as armed terrorist...?
Maybe she spoke too much;
revealed too much of the state's
Impunity. Is it her fault, then?
when we use our intellect against them
and sew words to corner the perpetrators,
they'd immediately tag us as rebels
so they could shoot us
and announce in public
that we deserve death by bullets.
Stop playing that old melody,
we no longer buy that.
I am afraid, if you continue to slay
civilians,
either we take arms
or we remain fighting with words...
JUST PRAY WE CHOOSE THE LATTER.
